WASHBURN – Galen E. Doody, 66, died unexpectedly Aug. 26, 2010, in Dyer Brook. He was born June 2, 1944, in Washburn, son of Herman and the late Sadie (Spooner) Doody. He married Carol Curtis, Aug. 30, 1962. Galen was part of the crew that opened Aroostook Center Mall, Presque Isle, and was still employed there as operations manger, a job he truly enjoyed. He treated the employees, merchants and especially the mall customers with respect and a great concern for their well being. Prior to his employment at Aroostook Center Mall he was employed by Cyr Brothers, Caribou, as well as Coca-Cola Bottling. Galen was a longtime, faithful member of Washburn Pentecostal Church, where he played the organ for many years. He was a talented musician and truly enjoyed sharing his music with many in central Aroostook, playing at countless weddings and funerals. He also played organ at Castle Hill Advent Christian Church for a number of years. His music reverberated throughout downtown Washburn at the communities annual Gospel Concert. He always had a pocket full of M&M’s and always brought extra for the children at church, a ritual that many will remember. Galen’s warmth, sense of humor and his love for all was contagious. He was on a first name basis with everyone and he will be truly missed by all who knew him. Not a day went by that Galen couldn’t be found lending a helping hand to someone in need. After a long day at work, he would look forward to spending time with his family and his pets. On many summer evenings he would take his wife for a ride on his scooter. Surviving in addition to his wife and his father of Washburn, are a son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Holli Doody of Caribou; a daughter, Shelby Dobson and her fiance, Brian Ferrone, of Caribou; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wendell and Joyce Doody, and Wallace and Alice Doody, all of Washburn; eight grandchildren, Justin, Jared and Jaelynn Doody, Nickolas, Taylor, Chandler and Casey Dobson and Christopher Ferrone; one aunt, Louise Peterson of Monticello; his mother-in-law, Lillian Curtis of Orono; brothers-in-law and their wives, Ronald and Brenda Curtis of Caribou and Jeffrey and Alice Curtis of Castle Hill; several nieces and nephews, and many close friends. Bruce Blakney officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Doody may do so through the charity of one’s choice. www.mocklerfuneralhome.com
