DOVER-FOXCROFT – Alberta M. (Howard) Nutting, 76, passed away peacefully Aug. 26, 2010, at a Dexter health care facility. Alberta was born April 28, 1934, in Ellsworth, to Ralph and Eugenia (Hill) Howard. Alberta grew up in Blue Hill before marrying and moving to Dover-Foxcroft, where she and James started their family. Alberta worked as a certified nurse’s aide for 15 years at Hill Top Manor and Bishop’s Boarding Home. She was an active member of Senior Network and United Baptist Church of Dover-Foxcroft. Alberta enjoyed knitting and was an active member of the knitting club in Dover-Foxcroft, and was well known for making hats, mittens and socks for family and friends. Alberta will be remembered as a loving mother, nana and friend. Alberta is survived by one son, Robert Nutting of Deer Isle; two daughters, Patricia Smith and her husband, Clayton Smith, of Dexter and Eugenia Deering and her husband, Bruce Deering, of Ripley; five grandchildren, Wayne Doore III, Barry Deering, Liza Deering, Allison Smith and Torin Smith; eight great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, Dean Staples of St. Petersburg, Fla. A graveside service for Alberta will be held 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft, with Pastor Chris Viera officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend this service. A gathering will be held after the service at Patricia Smith’s home, 21 Acadia St., Dexter.
