A local woman was arrested Saturday night at Greystone Trailer Park in Veazie after she allegedly struck her boyfriend and threw a glass of beer at an Orono policeman.
Deborah Oldis, 46, was charged with domestic assault for hitting her boyfriend and with assault for hitting Orono police Sgt. Scott Wilcox in the chest with a glass full of beer, dousing his uniform, Officer Brian Sirois of the Veazie Police Department said Monday.
Oldis also was charged with violating the conditions of her release from a prior arrest because she committed a crime while out on bail, Sirois said.
An official with the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office said the domestic assault charge was elevated to felony level during a court appearance Monday because of prior assault convictions. Those include a 2007 conviction for assaulting a police officer for which she was sentenced to two years in jail with all but six months suspended, according to Bangor Daily News archives.
Sirois said that he was sent to the mobile home in which the alleged assaults took place after another resident of the park called police to report having seen Oldis hit her boyfriend on the head at least three times. He said a witness who was inside the mobile home reported at least three other blows.
Though Sirois said neither Oldis nor her victim would admit the assaults had taken place, Sirois said he and Wilcox could see blood at the top of the man’s forehead and behind one of his ears.
Sirois said he called for backup from Orono because there has been a history of criminal activity at that location. Oldis remained at Penobscot County Jail late Monday night, a jail official said. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
