BANGOR and PORTLAND – Mary Norton (Maddox) Andrew died Sept. 27, 2010, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Oct. 12, 1922, and reared in Rome, Ga., daughter of George Edmondson and Jessie Towers Maddox. She graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Lynchburg, Va., and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She worked in medical research at the Biochemical Research Foundation of the Franklin Institute, Newark, Del.; then as research assistant to the chief of pathology of Emory University Medical School, Atlanta. On June 26, 1948, she married David Kilton Andrew of Portland, where she resided. For 25 years she worked as a biochemist in the Department of Pathology of Maine Medical Center, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Woodfords Congregational Church, Stroudwater Village Association, a longtime volunteer at Maine Medical Center, and a senior classes student at the University of Southern Maine. She was predeceased by her husband. She is survived by daughters, Kathryn A. Howard and husband, William, Liza Andrew-Miller and husband, Clyde K. Miller II, Laurie A. Hungerford and husband, Bruce, and Abbie A. Barber and husband, David; five grandsons, Karl L. Peterson, Taylor Hungerford, Trevor Hungerford, Chase A. Hungerford and Spencer D. Hungerford; three granddaughters, Megan M. Blosch, Holly M. Barber and Lucie Miller; two great-granddaughters, Nora E. Edwards and Nina L. Peterson; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Andrew and Helen Woodbrey; several nieces and nephews. Kathy, Liza, Laurie and Abbie thank the staffs at Winterberry Heights Assisted Living & Memory Care, Westgate Manor and Beacon Hospice for the wonderful care provided to our mother. A celebration of life service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodfords St., Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. <
