FORT FAIRFIELD – Shirley T. Flannery, 79, husband of Margaret M. (O’Donnell) Flannery, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 6, 2010, at a Caribou nursing facility, after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 22, 1931, in Fort Fairfield, son of Thomas E. and Clara M. (Donovan) Flannery. He was educated in the Fort Fairfield school system and went on to serve his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He was married to Margaret M. O’Donnell, Dec. 16, 1952, and had been self-employed as a potato farmer for many years and also worked for Sergents Trucking and Lane Construction Co. as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He was a communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, and was a member of Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1753, Fort Fairfield. Shirley greatly enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved life and lived it to the fullest, cherished his many friends, and will be remembered as a great storyteller. His family was the center of his world and his shining star was his daughter, Beth Anne. He will be lovingly remembered and cherished by his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Flannery was predeceased by three brothers, Jon Dale, Leonard and John Flannery; one sister, Dawn Bishop; one sister-n-law, Delores “Doll” Flannery; and one son-in-law, Thomas LaPointe. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Flannery of Fort Fairfield; two sons, Jeffrey H. Flannery and his wife, Wendy, of Norton, Mass., and Stephen P. Flannery of Fort Fairfield; four daughters, Cheryl A. LaPointe of Caribou, Cathy D. Phillips and her husband, Paul, of Shrewsbury, Mass., Lynn Greenlaw and her husband, Michael, and Beth Anne Flannery, all of Fort Fairfield; two brothers, Ruel Flannery and his wife, Gloria, of Fort Fairfield, and Roger Flannery of Scarborough; three sisters, Audrey Nystrom of California, Elouise Anticoli of Biddeford and Helen Wright of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren, Traves LaPointe, Lyndsay Theriault, Keli Maffei, John Phillips, Jennifer Lopes, Stephen and Jessica Flannery, Joshua Flannery and Keagan Fournier; 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his special cat, Sam. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral Mass at Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1753, 260 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
