PROSPECT HARBOR – Joyce Marie (Stinson) Stratton, 75, passed away peacefully Oct. 20, 2010, at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 28, 1935, at the family home in Prospect Harbor, daughter of Calvin L. Stinson Sr. and Marion Harding Stinson. Joyce attended school in Prospect Harbor, Higgins Classical Institute and Ellsworth High School, and was a member of Sumner Memorial High School’s first graduating class in 1953. She married Dana R. Stratton Sr. in 1954, raised four children, and enjoyed 43 happy years of marriage to her best friend and the love of her life until Dana’s death in 1997. Joyce is survived by her children, Dana Stratton Jr. of Bangor, Anthony Stratton and wife, Anite, of Prospect Harbor, Jane Petch and husband, Ed, of Manchester, N.H., and Robert Stratton and wife, Cathryn, of Manchester; grandchildren, Marie, Jason and Brandon Stratton, Kristin and Vince Cappello, Joanna, Michele, Elisha, Sarah, Dacey, Allison, Daya and Shawn Stratton, Sandi and Matt Pinkham, Susan and Mike Clay, Caitlin, Jessica and James Stratton; and great-grandchildren, Aubri, Shanti, Bryce and Brielle. Joyce is survived by her brothers, Calvin Stinson Jr. and wife, Ilene, and Charles Stinson and wife, Orice; sister, Ida Mae Trenholm and husband, K. Richard; in-laws, Ruth and Harold Glencross, Georgette Stratton, Kendall Jr. and Marcia Stratton, and Arnold Francis; many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Dana Sr.; parents, Calvin Sr. and Marion; sisters, Eva Grace Wight and Lou Ann Francis; Dana’s parents, Kendall Sr. and Maime Stratton; and brothers-in-law, William Stratton and Carl Wight. The Stratton and Petch families thank our wonderful friends at Mary Dow Center, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Eastern Maine Medical Center, Ross Manor, Capital Ambulance Service, and Community Health and Counseling Services. Despite our sorrow, we are pleased that Mom and Dad are together again by the grace of God. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Bragdon-Kelly Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, with the Rev. John Holt officiating. After the service the family invites relatives and friends for a reception 3-5 p.m. at Ramada Inn, High Street, Ellsworth.
