BUCKSPORT and DEDHAM, Mass. – John James “Jack” Carroll, 93, died Oct. 19, 2010, with his loving children by his side. He was born July 31, 1917, in Carthage N.Y., son of John James Carroll and Maude (Gates) Carroll. He graduated from Holy Family High School in 1934. He attended the University of Toronto for three years, where he was a lightweight wrestler. He graduated from Clarkson College in 1940 with a degree in civil engineering. He was employed by Chemipulp from 1940 to 1942. During World War II he enlisted and was in the Army Air Corps of Engineers from August 1942 to September 1945, and was stationed in the British Guineas. He retuned to Chemipulp through June 1952 and was an assistant chief engineer. He then went to St. Regis, Deferiet, N.Y, in June 1952. In 1961 he moved to Bucksport. He worked at St. Regis until he retired in 1978. He and his wife, Betty, spent winters in Florida for 30 years. They traveled throughout the United States and Europe. Jack enjoyed gardening, bridge, hunting, fishing and being in the outdoors for all of his life. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty (Yazowski) Carroll; his brother, Dr. William Carroll of Lowville, N.Y.; and his sister, Catherine Harrison of Albany, N.Y. He is survived by a son, John and his wife, Sharon Carroll, of Orland; daughter, Mary and husband, Dan O’Sullivan, of Canton, Mass.; daughter, Patty and her husband, John Forino, of Sudbury, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Shauna and husband, Matt Shiff, Alicia and husband, Jon Lambert, Robbie Carroll and his fiancee, Carmen Rogers, Kathleen O’Sullivan, Tim O’Sullivan, Jason Forino and Sara Forino; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church with Father Bruce Siket, celebrant. Interment will be at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Cemetery, Bucksport. Donations in memory of Jack may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Bangor, Inc., 654 State St., Bangor, ME 04401-5649. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
