EAST MILLINOCKET and MADISON – Donald Damon, 79, passed away peacefully Oct. 23, 2010, with family at his side, after a brief illness. He was born April 2, 1931, in Madison, son of Owen and Edna (Edgerly) Damon. Donald attended schools in Madison and Anson. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and Air Force during the Korean War. He married Audrey Thomas, Oct. 16, 1954, and had just celebrated 56 years of marriage. Donald worked in the Madison mill before moving to East Millinocket. He worked for Great Northern Paper Co. as a papermaker for 35 years, retiring June 1, 1985. His pastimes included fishing on Slaughter Pond, picking berries, cross-country skiing and walking through the woods. Audrey and Donald enjoyed Saturday night dances for several years. Donald was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife, Audrey; a son, Danny and wife, Hattie, of Smithfield; two daughters, Julie and husband, Les Brown, of East Millinocket and Laurie Damon of Marshfield, Mass.; six grandchildren, Joshua Damon and wife, Krystal, Shawn Brown and wife, Kristen, Nikki Larson and husband, Roger, Angela Stratton and husband, Chad, and Jonathan and Isaiah Damon; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Brown, Addison Stratton, Isabella Damon and Haley Larson; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Owen and Edna Damon; two brothers, Roland and James Damon; and a sister, Jane Andrews. Friends and family may call 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where the funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Joshua Damon officiating. A committal service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison.
