OLD TOWN – Lawrence “Buster” Wiley Waye, 84, a lifelong resident of Old Town, passed away Oct. 25, 2010, while a resident at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor, after a short illness. He was born Aug. 19, 1926, the youngest of seven children born to Murray L. and Maude (Ferro) Waye Buster entered the Army in January 1945, and served in the South Pacific in World War II with the 574th Air Materials Squadron. After his service, Buster married Annette Raymond of Eagle Lake and built their home next to his parent’s house on Veazie Street. Buster worked for the Old Town school system as a custodian for 37 years before his retirement in 1983. After the death of his first wife, Buster married Mary (Tozier) Cough in 1974. He and wife, Mary, enjoyed many winters in Florida in their retirement years. Buster was an avid outdoorsman and passed his appreciation of nature on to his family members. Buster enjoyed woodworking, and later in life was often seen on his sun porch on Veazie Street, watching the birds at the feeder and keeping an eye on the neighborhood activities. Buster is survived by his daughter, Sandra Bond and husband, Ralph, of South Dakota, and their daughter, Amy Schemmel and husband, Curt, of Minnesota. He is also survived by his stepsons, Patrick Cough and wife, Rose, of Bucksport, James Cough of Bangor and Dennis Cough and wife, Caryn, of Greenbush; sisters, Olive Knights of Brewer and Lavada Dubay of Jefferson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Buster was predeceased by both of his wives; brothers, Lyman and Preston Waye; and sisters, Margret Waye and Evelyn Jordan Ireland. The family thanks the staff of Maine Veteran Home, Bangor, for their care of Buster in his last months. At his request, a small graveside service will be held at a later date.
