MOUNT DESERT and MACHIAS – Marjorie F. Whitney, 94, died Oct. 25, 2010, in Mount Desert. She was born Oct. 11, 1916, in Natick, Mass., daughter of the late Arthur A. and Daisey (McKiel) Bernard. She attended local schools and moved to Machias at a young age. Mrs. Whitney was a woman of modest means. She loved yard sales, Beano, attending church and spending time with her family. Marjorie was married to Lloyd Blanchard, and later in life married Joseph Whitney. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Whitney; and a daughter, Diane Blanchard Ashley. She is survived by three sons, Paul Blanchard of East Machias, Richard Blanchard of Gainsville, Fla., and Jerry Whitney and his wife, Cheryl, of Great Pond; two daughters, Jane Whitney White of Lisbon and Jean Whitney Manduca of Mississippi; one brother, William Bernard of South Carolina; and two sisters, Barbara Bitzer and Grace; 26 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Jack Drake. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Gardner’s Lake Cemetery, Whiting, with the Rev. Bill Holmes officiating. Condolences may be made online at www.bragdonkelley.com.
