BLAINE – Russell D. Townsend, 92, died Oct. 28, 2010, at a Mars Hill health care facility. He was born July 3, 1918, in Blaine, the son of Samuel and Nettie (Bell) Townsend. Russell was a hardworking dairy and potato farmer in the area for many years and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for several years. Recently, Russell was a resident of Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill, where he enjoyed the many activities available for their residents. He and his family were very grateful for the wonderful care he received there. He is survived by a son, Merlin Townsend and his wife, Donna, of Bangor; a daughter, Jacqueline Garrison and her husband, Wayne, of Blaine; five grandchildren, Terri Townsend, Tyler Townsend and his wife, Dionne, Andrea (Garrison) Hammond and her husband, Brent, Gregg Garrison and his wife, Heidi, and Tracey (Garrison) Wright and her husband, Edward; eight great-grandchildren, Olivia, Spencer, Chandler, Sydney, Isabelle, Brandon, Anna and Tyler; a sister, Lois McCrea of Mars Hill; a brother, Ronald Townsend of Mars Hill; and a brother-in-law, Fred Kelley of North Haven, Conn. He was predeceased by his wife, Annie Mae (Jamison) Townsend; two sisters, Ruth Pedre and Ellen Kelley; a sister-in-law, Eloise Benson Townsend; and a brother-in-law, Robert McCrea. Relatives and friends may call 12:30 p.m. until the time of service 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Duncan Funeral Home, Mars Hill, with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating.
