ETNA – Imogene “Nanna” Burke, 86, died Nov. 15, 2010, at her Burke Lane home, after a brief illness. She was born May 24, 1924, in Burnham, the daughter of Clarence and Vera (Cookson) Basford. Imogene was a 1940 graduate of Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield. She married Clifton Burke, Dec. 6, 1941, and he predeceased her Feb. 24, 1998. For more than 20 years Imogene worked in the meat rooms at Bud’s Shop ‘n Save, Newport and Pittsfield. “Nanna,” as she liked to be called, loved her family and they took priority over everything. Her favorite times were when her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were with her. She loved the outdoors, especially while hunting and fishing. She was always ready to go to “camp” at Lilly Bay. She also enjoyed a good game of cards. “Nanna” is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Gary Braley of Newport and Connie and Larry Seavey of Newport; two sons and their wives, Roger and Dawn Burke of Palmyra and Reggie and Gail Burke of Etna; two sisters, Frances and her husband, Bill Sheppard, of Burnham and Joyce Wood of Burnham; 12 grandchildren, Scott Braley, Todd Braley, Laurie Arena, Becky Crane, Sue Eastman, Linda Watson, Tracy burke, Darcy Pearl, Jamie Meservey, April Herboth, Andrea Burke and Hollie Hatchel; 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth, with the Rev. Ernest Campbell officiating.
