CORINTH – Betty Lou Dakin, whose given name was Mary Elizabeth Pictou, 76, died unexpectedly Dec. 6, 2010, at her residence. She was born April 8, 1934, in Canada, daughter of Margaret Frances Pictou. An extremely hard working person, she was known as a feisty sweetheart whom everybody loved. She started work at age 13 for Salvation Army. She worked as a bookkeeper for Nissen’s Bakery, Brewer, for 27 years, was an avid volunteer for various food cupboards for many years and as a driver for Lynx for 13 years. Her earlier employment was as a waitress at Oscars Restaurant, Peter’s Candlelight and Waverly. She had been an Avon representative for many years and also loved playing bingo with her many friends. Surviving are a daughter, Alice Breau of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Brenda Cashman of Corinth; a brother, John Dedam and Constance of Sorrento; grandchildren, Danny and Dack Galligher, both of Florida, and Kristina Galligher and Madeline Brough, both of Tennessee; six great-grandchildren, Meekum Hobbs, Martina Atterholt, Kobel Atterholt, Kali Galligher, Jacobi Batey-Breau, all of Tennessee and Audia Galligher of Florida; a niece, Lana Courtright; two nephews, Percy L. Paul Jr. of California and Donald Martin of Washington state; a sister-in-law, Bernice Pictou; also Peter, John, Gerald, Victor, Hector, Stella and Evelyn Pictou; and many, many friends. Betty was predeceased by a sister, Mary Cecelia French; and three brothers, Percy L. Paul, Lester and Gabriel Pictou. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday. Spring burial will be at Washburn.
