HERMON – Vivian P. Townsend, 91, passed away peacefully Dec. 9, 2010, at her home. She was born Dec. 3, 1919, in East Corinth, the daughter of Ernest E. and Georgianna (Eddy) Page. Vivian graduated from East Corinth Academy, was Class valedictorian, and graduated from Bangor School of Commerce – now Husson University. She was a member of Maine State Women’s Golf Association, Rural Letter Carriers Association and Hammond Street Senior Center. Vivian was an avid golfer, and she achieved the great honor of scoring two holes-in-one. Vivian is survived by a son, Jeffrey R. Higgins and his wife, Elizabeth, of Corinth; a daughter, Rebecca Welch and her husband, Steven, of Hampden; two brothers-in-law, Sidney Higgins and his wife, Beryl, and Robert Higgins; two sisters-in-law, Frances Wilcox and Elvia Nevers and her husband, Larry; four stepchildren, Jerry Hazlett and friend, Bob Brann, Faye Moon, Ben Townsend and his wife, Judy, and Dennis Townsend and his wife, Belanda; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and many good friends, including special friends, Shirley Fontaine and Helen McDevitt. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two husbands, Everett Higgins, in 1960, and Lyle Townsend, in 1991; and two brothers, Lawrence Page and Maynard Page. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 1 p.m. until the time of service 3 p.m. Dec. 12, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Pastor Stan Griffin, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiating. Spring interment will be at Kenduskeag Village Cemetery.
