SCARBOROUGH – Rinanne S. “Rindi” Martin-Weigel, 56, passed away Dec. 15, 2010, in Scarborough, after a long illness. She was born April 26, 1954, daughter of Eugene S. and Anna R. Martin. She attended Cape Elizabeth schools, graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School, Class of 1973, and graduated from Syracuse University. She taught briefly in South Berwick and South Portland, then taught second grade for many years at Pond Cove Elementary, Cape Elizabeth. Words cannot describe Rindi; in essence she was both courageous and an inspiration. She was a teacher, a friend, a soulmate and so much more. For those who knew Rindi, words aren’t necessary. You know… She may be remembered for her infectious laugh and her desire to help anyone at anytime. Among her favorite things and places, in no particular order: the color purple, dalmatians, Moorea, mussels, irises and gardenias, blueberries and blueberry ice cream, tugboats, skiing, snorkeling, the seashore, the coast of Maine, Bar Harbor, the Jordan Pond House, popovers, dolphins, and Fresh Produce. The list could go on and on… Rindi was predeceased by her beloved dalmatian and angel, Malaika. She is survived by her husband and soulmate, Peter Weigel of Scarborough; her mother, Anna of Scarborough; brother, Garrett Martin of Hermon; brother, Timothy and his wife, Kathryn, of Cape Elizabeth; nieces, Britanny and Courtney; and nephews, Brandon, Chelton and Nicholas. She is also survived by her cats, Sidney and PJ; and by countless friends. Many thanks to Dr. Hector Tarraza and his staff at Maine Medical Partners Gyn/oncology; the staff at the Gibson Pavilion at Maine Medical Center, IV therapy staff, Visiting Nurses, and the many others who helped Rindi on her journey of the past 19 years. And thanks especially to Rindi’s many friends, whose visits, phone calls and e-mails, best wishes, and prayers were always so important to her. Visiting hours will be noon-2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A private burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Caring Bridge, Donation Center, P.O. Box 6032, Albert Lea, MN 56007-6632.
