HOULTON – Amanda M. Dunphy, 99, passed away Dec. 20, 2010, at a local health care facility. She was born Sept. 1, 1911, in Fort Kent, the daughter of Samuel and Christine (Castonguay) Caron. Amanda was employed at The Aroostook Hospital and then for many years at Houlton Regional Hospital until her retirement. She was well known by many of the patients for her loving and tender care as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of Houlton First Baptist Church and Portia Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed bowling with the Dux Club ladies and for a number of years attended almost every high school basketball game in Houlton and Hodgdon. Her greatest love was family, especially her grandchildren, devoting many hours of her time on their behalf. “Camp Dolwood” at Drews Lake, was her special place on earth, where she spent the majority of her days in the summer and fall until the snow would cease her travel. Amanda is survived by her children, Woodrow “Woodie” Dunphy and his wife, JoAnn, of Linneus and Dolores Briggs of Houlton; six grandchildren, Debbie Grass, Doug Briggs, Renae LeFay, Amanda Murray, Fawn Dunphy and Albertine Dunphy; 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Crawford and Blanche Cyr; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Dunphy, whose burial site she visited daily and watered the red begonias that she planted every spring for 38 years; and two brothers, Zenon and Hileare Caron. Amanda’s family thanks the administration and staff at Madigan Estates for the love and care they showed Amanda during her stay at their facility. Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of service 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Dunn Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating.
