SEARSMONT – Liliane Sohns, wife of the late Walter Sohns, passed away Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, surrounded by family and her beloved Airedale, Maggie, at her home. She was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Angers, France, the only daughter of Emile and Alice Blu. She witnessed and was shaped by many world events including Lindberg’s landing in Paris, General Patton’s liberation of her hometown and the Berlin airlift. During World War II, she was rescued during armed conflict by an American GI, Walter Sohns, who later became her husband. They made their home in France and had two children, James and Ann. They moved to Maine in 1969 and enjoyed their home in Searsmont. After the love of her life died in 1978, she continued her life’s interest in gardening, painting, opera, fishing and travel. She will be remembered for her sharp French wit and her loving, caring heart. We will miss you forever Mum. She is survived by two children, James Sohns and his wife, Arlene, and their three children, Tony, Annette and Amanda, and Ann Robbins and her husband, Jim, and their three children, Catherine, Jimmy and Alden; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass and reception will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Belfast. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Waldo County Home Health and Hospice.
