PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Helen Kidney Umphrey died peacefully Dec. 22, 2010, at Meese Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor, Fla. She was born May 18, 1928, the daughter of James L. and Lucy Shaw Kidney of Washburn. She is survived by her sister, Charlotte; her daughter, Laura Foster; and her sons, James, Patrick, Daniel and Peter. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a multitude of friends. Helen’s professional career began as a teacher in Washburn and spanned 25 years as a medical social worker in the state of Maine until her retirement to Florida in 1995. She was a member of Anona United Methodist Church, Largo, Fla., and a 25-year member of Order of the Eastern Star. A graveside committal will be held in April at Anona United Methodist Church and a memorial service will be held at Washburn United Methodist Church in May. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in her name to the memorial fund of Anona United Methodist Church, 13233 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774.
