HOULTON – Lucy Drake Bell, 83, passed away Jan. 7, 2011, at her residence. She was born Oct. 28, 1927, in Houlton, the daughter of Lyman Houlton and Lola (McGuire) Drake. Lucy lived all of her life on her beloved Drake’s Hill, which was settled by her great-grandfather, George Drake, in 1853. She was associated in the family business, Squeeze Bottling Works, and Drake’s Hill Top Market and Restaurant with her father, mother, brother and husband for many years. In 1975 she and Gene opened their home, known as Military Manor, to the elderly and until 1991, and cared for several ladies from different areas. Many happy years were enjoyed by the residents and by Gene and Lucy as well. She was a longtime member of Houlton Full Gospel Assembly Church. Lucy is survived by her husband, Gene Bell of Houlton; two sons and their wives, Brian and Debra (Davis) Bell of Houlton and G. Drake and Elizabeth “Tootie” (Delong) Bell of Brewer; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bell, Kristen Krueger, Kelley Bean and husband, Brian, Jonathan Bell and his wife, Amber, and Isaac Bell and his wife, Agueelah; four great-grandchildren, Jadyn Krueger, Koby, Connor and Carter Bean; one sister, Phyllis Drake Ritchie of Houlton; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and one special nephew, Woody Drake. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, George W. Drake; and infant sister, Betty Ann Drake. At Lucy’s request, there will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service to be announced in the spring.
