ESTES PARK, Colo. – Donald Mason Libby Sr., 88, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Good Samaritan Village, Estes Park, Colo. He passed away in the loving care of his family. Mr. Libby was born June 23, 1922, in Bangor, being one of three sons born to the late Percy and Mildred (Forsyth) Libby. He was married to Patricia Wright from Limestone, who predeceased him. Mr. Libby served his country in the U.S. Marines and was awarded the Purple Heart, among other medals, having been shot 13 times during the Battle of Tarawa. After two years of rehabilitation, he received an Honorable Discharge from the service and earned his associate degree in business administration from Husson College, Bangor. Donald was employed at Sandia Laboratories, Albuquerque, N.M. After leaving Sandia Laboratories, he owned and operated the House of Uniforms, Albuquerque, N.M., from 1969 to 1984. In 1985 Donald retired to Vero Beach, Fla., and recently moved to Estes Park, Colo., to be near his family. Mr. Libby is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Sandra Libby of Estes Park, Colo.; grandchildren, Tim and Laura Libby of Denver, Jennifer and Damon Brooks of Euless, Texas, Geoff Libby of Atlanta, Nate Libby of Columbia, S.C., and Andrew Libby of Fort Collins, Colo. He had one great-granddaughter, Hannah Grace Brooks. Cremation is planned and burial will be afterward at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
