MONTICELLO – Edward C. Boyce Sr., 76, died Jan. 14, 2011, at a Houlton hospital. He was born May 2, 1934, in Monticello, the son of Wilmont and Verna (Peterson) Boyce. Edward attended Monticello Calvary Pentecostal Church, where he loved to sing and play his guitar. He was a longtime long-haul truck driver. In 1980 he and Bud Burlock became partners in a trucking company that lasted until 1989, when he was forced to retire due to heart problems. Ed loved horses and especially his favorite dog, Major. He is survived by two sons, Jerry and Eugene Boyce; daughters, Pamela, Tena and Sonia; a half brother, Lloyd; half sisters, Nina, Sally and Linda; and special friends, Bud and Gerry Burlock, who were his caregivers, and Wendall Lynds. He was predeceased by his father; his mother, Verna Boyce Brewer; a son, Edward Jr.; a daughter, Bonnie; a brother, Larry; and a sister-in-law, Donna Boyce. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Duncan Funeral Home, Mars Hill. Graveside services will be conducted later in the spring at Jewell Cemetery, Monticello.
