BANGOR – Jay A. Youngs, 64, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, after fighting a long, courageous battle with illness. He was born June 18, 1946, in Chicago, the son of Frederick and Rita (Seekins) Youngs. Jay grew up in the Greater Bangor area and was a graduate of Brewer High School. He was the former proprietor of Youngs Photography Studio, Old Town, and a talented photographer. He also enjoyed a career in sales. Jay was a longtime member and former manager of Bangor Elks Club. He was involved for a number of years with Penobscot Nation Bingo, as the number caller. Jay will always be remembered for his amazing memory for details, passion for gourmet cooking and unique sense of humor. Jay is survived by his daughters, Jodi Youngs of Bangor and Janna Civittolo and her husband, Marc, and their son, Dominic, of Whitefield; mother, Rita S. Youngs of Brewer; brothers, Toby Youngs and his wife, Ellen, of Elgin, S.C., and Scott Youngs and his wife, Barbara, of Orrington; sister, Penny Rice and her husband, Michael, of Holden; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Dale, Amy and Di; and his two much loved cats. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, directory of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 4 p.m. until the time of service.
