PLYMOUTH – Joan R. Flood, 82, died Jan. 15, 2011, at a Pittsfield health care facility after a long illness. She was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Guilford, the daughter of Richmond “Bill” and Agnes (Hall) Lewis. She was educated in Guilford schools and a graduate of Guilford High School. Joan married Francis “Del” Flood Oct. 1, 1955. He predeceased her March 22, 2007, after 51 years of marriage. Del owned and operated a dairy farm in Plymouth and also a very successful refrigeration business. Joan could always be seen beside him helping with both businesses. In 1977 Del, Joan and Alan built, owned and operated Flood’s General Store, Newport, retiring in 1990. Joan was always known as “mother” to her employees and to her customers, a name she truly loved. During their retirement they traveled and traveled – they visited all 50 states, the provinces of Canada, Mexico to Guatemala, to the Texas line. Joan and Dell were active in National Farmers Organization. She was a member and past matron of Nokomis Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Newport. Joan is survived by her son, Alan L. Flood of Plymouth; one brother, Lawrence Lewis of Massachusetts; one grandson, and his wife, Stacy R. and Tamara Flood of Hudson, Mass.; and four great-granddaughters, Regina, Natasha, Gabrella and Carra. The late Will Rogers always said, “He never met a man he didn’t like,” well Joan never met a person she didn’t love. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, where Order of the Eastern Star services will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the officers of Nokomis Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
