WINTERPORT – Charles “Charlie” Ezra Rogers passed away Jan. 22, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home, after a year of failing health. He was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Bangor, the fifth child of Shirley Worth Rogers and Emily (Ranney) Rogers.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy just after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and he served four years. He then attended Husson College, studying business for 18 months, leaving school at the beginning of the Korean War to re-enlist in the Army. He served for 19 years, retiring April 30, 1968. At that time he began working for Hersey Trucking and Bangor Daily News, retiring in April 1991. Charlie enjoyed the small things in life: his woodstove and woodpile in winter and gardening and lawn mowing in summer. He always had a military story to tell. He was love and he will be dearly missed.
He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Ruth and Margaret; and brother, James. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Cheryl Carroll-Rogers of Winterport; his brother and sister-in-law, Dustan and Jeanne Rogers; his sister, Mary Gott; his mother-in-law, Gertrude Carroll; sisters-in-law, Sandra Dow and Judy Weymouth; several nieces and nephews. A special thank-you to Debbie C., Denise, Editha, Maria and Vickie for making his life more enjoyable during his stay at Maine Veterans Home.
Services will be private for the family. A service of Brookings-Smith.
