JONESPORT and SHERMAN – Barry J. McDonald, 60, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, surrounded by his family at home, after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was born Feb. 21, 1950, in Island Falls, to Daniel and Evelyn (Robinson) McDonald. Barry was a graduate of Katahdin High School and the University of Maine, Orono. In the summer of 1973 he began what would become a 27-year career working for St. Regis Paper Co., Champion International and International Paper. After retiring, he joined Robbins Lumber and bought pine saw logs, enjoying the chance to get back into the woods. He also served as code enforcement officer for several towns. During his career in forestry, many lifelong friendships were forged which he cherished deeply. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and weekends at camp with friends. Barry was a man who touched many lives, and those whose life he touched loved and admired him. In the spring of 2005 he met his soul mate, Gloria (Lamson) Alley, and they married Jan. 6, 2006. He enjoyed many camping trips and romantic evenings with Gloria. He loved to get family and friends together for camping trips and cook outs. He was predeceased by his father, Dan; and a brother, Mickey. In addition to his mother, Evelyn McDonald of Houlton, Barry is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria McDonald of Jonesport; their children, Joe McDonald and his wife, Belinda, of Jonesport, SueEllen Chamberlain and her husband, Ed, of Saco, Cecil McDonald and his wife, Tiffany, of Jessup, Ga., Jessica Alley and Dan Harden of Beals, Jonathan Alley and fiancee, Brittany White, of Beals, and Jenna Kelley and her husband, Kenneth, of Jonesport; 10 grandchildren, Abigail, Alexsis, Anika, Cameron, Catherine, Helen Rose, Joseph, Mary, Solomon and Tyler; a brother, Steve McDonald of Houlton; a sister, Luanne Crinion of Brunswick; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Barry will also be missed by “Papa’s barking girls,” Mishka and Sunna. Friends are invited to visit with the family 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the family’s residence, 778 Mason Bay Road, Jonesport, and Sunday 2-8 p.m. at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Benedicta, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, with the Rev.
