CHARLES E. ‘GENE’ ‘JONESY’ JONES SR. MILLINOCKET – Charles E. Jones Sr., 83, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Millinocket, son of Esther M. Jones, and was raised by his loving grandparents, George and Martha (Sleep) Jones. He was a graduate of Stearns High School, Class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy, 1946-1948. In 1955, he married Gloria H. Wallace, and together they shared 55 years and raised three wonderful children. Jonesy worked as general manager for O.S. Gonya for 35 years, from 1948 to 1983, and then worked for Dead River until 1993, when he retired. During his working years, he was the last owner of the family business, Jones’ Dairy, Millinocket. Jonesy was a member of B.P.O.E No. 1528, Millinocket, for many years, and Donald V. Henry Post No. 80, American Legion, and was a past member of the credit committee of Katahdin Federal Credit Union. In addition to his wife, Gloria H. (Wallace) Jones of Millinocket, he is survived by two children, Martha Haven and her husband, Dana, of Millinocket, and Craig Jones and his wife, Tanya, of Medway; daughter-in-law, Heidi Jones Gilmore and her husband, Jack, of Sherborne, Mass.; seven grandchildren, who were the apples of his eyes, Seth, Elizabeth, Catherine, Danielle, Jonathan, John and Will; a brother, A. Rodney Williams and his wife, Carolyn, of Biddeford; three brothers-in-law, Frank Wallace of East Millinocket, Ronald Wallace of Passadumkeag and Gerald Wallace of Meriden, Conn.; a special cousin, George Jordan and friend, Marjorie Bineau, of Coopers Mills; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves special friends, Paul C. Moir and Tom Hughes. In addition to his mother and grandparents, Jonesy was predeceased by a son, Charles E. “Chuck” Jones Jr., Feb. 8, 1990. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, with the Rev. Tim Bossie officiating.
