SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A local man was arrested Monday after trying to get a loan to pay restitution at a branch of the same bank he was convicted of robbing in 2008.
Joshua Lieberman, 21, was arrested on charges of violating his bail conditions. He was convicted of armed robbery in December 2008 and sentenced one year in prison after robbing the Madison branch of Franklin Somerset Federal Credit Union.
Lieberman returned to jail twice for violating his jail conditions by possessing marijuana in 2009 and 2010, according to the Morning Sentinel. After violating his bail conditions again, he was ordered to pay restitution.
Lieberman was recognized from the robbery by a cashier while trying to get a loan to pay that restitution.
“He said he just didn’t realize it was same corporation,” Skowhegan police Officer Ronnie Blodgett told the Sentinel. “That just doesn’t even sound right, that he went back to the institution that he stole from to get a loan to pay off what he owed them.”
