AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s top election official says supporters of a casino in Lewiston have submitted enough petitions to place their proposal before the Maine Legislature.
Secretary of State Charles Summers said Friday that a review determined there were 59,095 valid signatures, exceeding the statutory threshold by 1,818.
The proposal would change Maine’s law to allow a casino in Lewiston.
If the Legislature does not approve the casino bill, it will go to a statewide referendum this November.
