OLD TOWN – Richard “Dick” Kochis, 81, passed away peacefully Feb. 8, 2011, at his residence, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 7, 1930, in Lisbon Falls, son of John H. and Elizabeth (Margitan) Kochis.

Dick graduated from Lisbon High School, Class of 1948. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for a three-year period ending in 1951. Dick graduated from the University of Connecticut where he earned a degree in pharmacy. He worked his entire career as a pharmacist. Dick first owned and operated State Street Drug, Bangor, for three years, and then worked at Liggett’s Rexall Drug Store for the next 23 years. Finally, he settled into the role of owner and operator of Medicine Shoppe on Hammond Street until he retired. Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. He enjoyed following University of Connecticut men’s and women’s basketball, and the men’s football team as well. He also enjoyed attending University of Maine sporting events with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (McDermott) Kochis; sons, Alan Kochis and wife, Janet, of Brewer, Timothy Kochis and wife, April, of Greenfield, and Daniel Kochis of Newburgh; a daughter, Kara Kochis Boyington of Bradley; a special daughter-in-law, Kristi Kochis of Old Town; a sister, Mary Prucker of Virginia; grandchildren, Jeremy, Josh, Chelsey, Zakary and Cody Kochis, Grace and Skye Boyington; several nieces and nephews.
