KENNEBUNK and FORT KENT – George Picard, 83, died peacefully Feb. 11, 2011, surrounded by his family at a Scarborough health care facility. He was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Fort Kent, the son of Joseph and Regina (Laferriere) Picard.

George belonged to fourth degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 0352 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Lozier O’Grady Post No. 9609, both of Fort Kent. He loved golfing, snowmobiling and playing dice. He enjoyed the companionship of his friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynne Schoonard and Anne Picard, both of Kennebunk; one son, Scott Picard of Eagle Lake; four grandchildren, Jared Schoonard, Evan and Colin Yates and Ella Martha, all of Kennebunk; brothers and sisters, Theresa Savage, Paul Picard, Reynold Picard and Conrad Picard, all of Bristol, Conn., Clair Gregoire of Springfield, Mass., Gerard Picard of North Carolina, James Picard of Bangor and Robert Picard of Austin, Texas; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Clara Picard, in 2005; his son, Paul Picard, in 1980; and brothers and sisters, Aline Levasseur, Benoit Picard, Cecile Picard, Mary-Ange Picard, Bernadette Groves, Joseph Picard and Alfred Picard.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial with full military and fourth degree honors will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent, with the Rev. James Nadeau officiating. Committal services will be held May 17, at the parish cemetery. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Gosnell Hospice House, 11 Honey Well Road, Scarborough, ME 04074.
