RIPLEY – Jean H. “Aunt Jean” Ellms, 96, died Feb. 10, 2011, at a Dexter health care facility. She was born June 1, 1914, in Ernest, Pa., daughter of Phillip and Janet (Hamilton) Pugh.

Jean married Edward H. Ellms in 1949, and worked for many years for Allied Chemical in New York City. After retirement, she and her husband returned to Ripley to the farm that their family has owned since 1902.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1990; a dear sister, Elizabeth Ann Smith, in 2010; and two stepdaughters, Virginia Osterhus and Barbara “Bobbie” Dover. She is survived by two nieces, Virginia Ellms of Ripley and Maxine Noyes of Newfields, N.H.; several great-nieces and great-nephews; a stepdaughter, Shirley Hatch; and very good friends, Stan and Linda Dulac.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter, with Pastor Stephen Dean and her niece, Kimberly Ellms officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Spring burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
