CARMEL and BANGOR – Irvin P. Moore, 97, husband of Marguerite (Springer) Moore, died Feb. 16, 2011, at a Bangor health center. He was born Nov. 4, 1913, in Saponac, son of Roscoe A. Sr. and Yensie M. (Harriman) Moore.
Irvin was the eldest of 10 children growing up in Saponac. He attended a one-room school and Lincoln High School. After high school, he worked in the woods supplying the paper mills and the lumbering market with wood. Irvin moved to Bangor when the lumbering boom ended in Saponac and he began working as a civilian employee at Dow Air Force Base during the ’30s and ’40s. He eventually retired from Eastern Fine Paper, Brewer, after nearly 20 years. He was an active member of the community and was a 62-year member of St. Andrews Lodge No. 83, AF & AM, Bangor. He was honored in October 2010 for his dedication and service to the community and for his longevity with the lodge. During his retirement, Irvin drove a bus for disabled citizens and he volunteered as a foster grandparent for the Elizabeth Levinson Center as a mentor to a young boy. He also loved to farm raising goats and growing organic vegetables and rhubarb. His large rhubarb crop was bought each year by a coastal company that made pies. Irvin loved to make baked beans for his family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of Brewer, are five children, Pascal Moore and his wife, Joan, of Hampden, Muriel Wood of Bangor, Shirley Stork and her husband, Chuck, of Kerville, Texas, Henry Bunker and his wife, Audrey, of Albion, and Beverly Foley and her husband, Michael of Bangor; nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; one brother, Atwood Moore of Lincoln; many niece and nephews. He was predeceased by one grandchild, Brent Moore; three brothers, Lawrence and Calvin Moore, and Roscoe Moore Jr.; and five sisters, Lila Whitten, Annie Emery, Lucille Rich, Gertrude Gaudette and Grace Moore.
Family and friends may visit 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a service honoring Irvin’s life will be begin 1 p.m. as the visitation concludes.
