MARS HILL – Bishop Harold L. Fulton, 83, died peacefully early Friday morning, Feb. 18, 2011, surrounded by his wife and children at The Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill. He was born July 12, 1927, in Mars Hill, the son of Fay and Ella (DeMerchant) Fulton and the great-grandson of Robert and Martha (Jones) Fulton, who emigrated here from Canada in 1866.

In 1951 Bishop Fulton pioneered the Church of Jesus, Chapman Street, Presque Isle. He served as pastor for more than 50 years, before retiring from that position. Bishop Fulton had a great love for humanity and a person rich or poor would only have to meet him once to realize that they would have a friend forever. Much of Bishop Fulton’s life was spent in the air – for he loved flying. Many are enjoying that same passion today because of his teaching. Just as many have no doubt decided that walking is more enjoyable after a barrel roll while flying over the scenic Mars Hill Mountain.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Taylor) Fulton of Mars Hill; a son, Rodney Lee Fulton and his wife, Jo Ann, of Blaine; four daughters, Rebecca Louise Brown and her husband, Leon, of Fort Fairfield, Revily Lynn Dawson and her husband, Hampton, of Presque Isle, Rosa Lee Ayotte and her husband, Kenneth, of Presque Isle and Rae Leslie LaPointe and her husband, Jim, of Presque Isle; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, three stepgrandchildren; one stepson, the Rev. Darin Collins and his wife, Roberta, of Harrisville, R.I.; and a brother-in-law, Robert Taylor and his wife, Janice, of Coventry, R.I. Bishop Fulton was predeceased by his wife, Norma Avis (Chase), Jan. 18, 1989; and a sister, Mona Ann (Fulton) Fuller of Easton, March 8, 1997. A special word of appreciation to the wonderful staff of the Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill, for their kindness and loving care; and to a special friend and neighbor, Sheri Tisza who also helped with his care in his home.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at Church of Jesus, Chapman Street, Presque Isle, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Mark Carter and Pastor Dale Nason officiating. Donations may be made to Church of Jesus, 153 Chapman St., Presque Isle. Spring interment will be at Kings Grove Cemetery, Mars Hill.
