PRESQUE ISLE – Donald E. Embleton, 93, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at The Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle. He was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Portage, the son of Fred and Marian (McIntyre) Embleton.
He married Gladys LaDuc in 1944 and they were married 60 years. Don helped develop the atomic bomb in Los Alamos, N.M., during World War II. He worked as a machinist for Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut, National Steel in California, Pinkham Lumber, Ashland, and the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C. He loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by two sons and their wives, Donald C. and Holly Embleton of Mapleton and Merle James and Susan Embleton of Winn; two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Greg Archer of Castle Hill and Darlene and Bob Feener of Pahrump, Nev.; 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys, in 2002; two sons, Richard D. and an infant son, Kenneth; and two brothers.
