BANGOR – Frederick F. Shannon, 74, died Feb. 21, 2011, at a local hospital, after a long, courageous battle with lung disease. He was born Nov. 24, 1936, in Orrington, son of Frederick A. and Emily (Russell) Shannon.

Frederick was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he enjoyed his time with his grandchildren. Frederick graduated from Brewer High School and retired from the Maine Air National Guard as a first sergeant.

Frederick is survived by his wife of 33 years, Erika (Eichrodt) Shannon; two sons, Christopher Shannon and his wife, Debbie, of Virginia, and Daniel Shannon and his wife, Paula, of Brewer; one daughter, Colleen Griffin of Portland; two stepdaughters, Heidi Parker of Virginia, and Serena Poland and her husband, David, of Levant; and eight grandchildren, Bryan, Kelsey, Natalie, Patrick, Emily, Matthew, Peter and Marcus. The family expresses a special thank you to the staff of St. Joseph Hospital.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where relatives and friends are welcome to call 1 p.m. until the time of service Thursday. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the interment at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
