ORONO – Hazel Charles DeSiervo, 75, wife of August J. DeSiervo, died Feb. 21, 2011, at home, after a long illness. She was born Jan. 14, 1936, in Astoria, N.Y., daughter of Daisy Lavinia Myrtle (Seale) Burgess and Charles Lee Evans Burgess.

After a successful career as an executive secretary working in New York City, Hazel moved to Maine to be with the love of her life, August. She was a dedicated mother and spent the majority of her time nurturing and supporting her children, and caring for her beloved west highland terriers, Buffy, Muffin, MacDuff and Charlie. She loved her home in Orono and adored walking through her neighborhood, getting to know and love all of her neighbors and every child, cat and dog along the way. She had a great love and talent for music and shared it often by playing the piano at home, as a singer in Oratorio Society and as the regular organist and pianist at Harrison D. Barrett Spiritualist Church, Bangor. She loved to travel to exotic places with her husband, such as the Amazon, Mexico and Europe. Her bright spirit, quick smile, fabulous sense of humor and kind heart made her an instant friend to all those who met her.

She is survived by her husband, August of Orono; three children and seven grandchildren, August A DeSiervo of Orono, Andrew B. DeSiervo and his children, Joseph and Philip, of Amherst, Mass., and Elena Burns of Bangor and her husband, Robert, and their children, Zo‰, Fletcher, Cameron, Sydney and Piper. She was predeceased by her sisters, Jacqueline Burgess, and Glenna and her husband, Homer Hastings.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Brookings-Smith, Orono Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono, where friends are welcome to call 1 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Orono. Condolences to the family may be expressed at
