FARMINGTON – Margaret “Peggy” Moorhead Dawes, 88, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, in Farmington. She was born May 23, 1922, daughter of the late Patrick Moorhead and Felecia (Feerick) Moorhead.
Peggy graduated from Newton (Mass.) High School and went to work for Lewis Shepard Co. She married Wilfred Dawes, Nov. 24, 1948. When her husband obtained a job as personnel manager at Forster Mfg. Co., they moved to Farmington in 1968, making Farmington her permanent home. In February 1968 she started work at The Kyes Agency, Inc. She was a true professional and was dedicated to her work. Her work ethic was incredible. She gained much respect in the insurance world as an outstanding businesswoman. She retired in 2002, but continued to work part-time until 2005. Peggy was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Alter Guild, Farmington.
Peggy is survived by her two sons, Robert Dawes and his wife, Lucy, of Milford, and Dennis and his wife, Kim, of Belgrade; four grandchildren, Eric Dawes, Jennifer Gomm and husband, Lance, Ryan Dawes and Kevin Dawes; and her great-granddaughter, Mykayla. She was predeceased by her husband; and two younger sisters, Barbara Ventre of Plymouth, Mass., and Mary Davis of Uxbridge, Mass. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Adams-McFarlane Funeral & Cremation Services, 108 Court St., Farmington. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 133 Middle St., Farmington.
