HARFORD’S POINT – Mercedes “Duddy” Blanchard, 74, died Feb. 22, 2011, at C.A. Dean Hospital, Greenville. She was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Greenville, daughter of William and Florence (Littlefield) McIver.
She was a lifelong resident of the Greenville/Rockwood areas and attended Greenville schools. Duddy loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman who preferred the rivers, lakes and woods of the Moosehead area. She loved fishing, hunting and trapping and was a member of Big Buck Club. She even built canoes with Doc. Active in local affairs, Duddy was affiliated with a variety of organizations, including the school board, Union Evangelical Church, Order of the Eastern Star, member of the women’s club, coach of the girl’s high school basketball team in the early 1960s, and volunteer at the local food cupboard.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold “Doc” Blanchard, in 2005. She is survived by three children, Stephen and Glenna Irvine of Portland, Julia and Larry Lavigne of Greenville, and Sheila and Jonathan Harvell of New Sharon; three stepsons, Keith and Diane Blanchard of Raymond, Harold Blanchard of Greenville, and David and Lisa Blanchard of Raymond; three stepdaughters, Dr. Sharon Blanchard-Kimball of Pittsfield, Patricia and Elden Glidden of South China, and Kimberly and Gunnar Bengtson of Millbury, Mass.; special sister-in-law, Sheila McIver of Greenville; grandchildren, James Irvine, Julie and Jessica Genest, Christopher and Scott Lavigne, Stephen George Harvell, Beth Irelend, Bryan McBrierty, Michelle and Jamie Glidden, Amber, Ashley and Arielle Blanchard, Rachael and Jessie Blanchard, Chase and Brandon Blanchard, Zachery Karantza, Blake, Austin and Adam Bengtson; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Union Evangelical Church, Greenville, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Veon officiating.
