FORT FAIRFIELD – Myrtle M. Martin, 73, wife of the late Donald J. Martin, passed away peacefully Monday evening, Feb. 21, 2011, at a Presque Isle nursing facility, after a long, but courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 24, 1937, in Fort Kent, the daughter of Josephel and Lillian (Laferriere) Pinette.
She attended Fort Kent schools, was married to Donald J. Martin, Nov. 26, 1959, and was a communicant of St. Denis Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood, Fort Fairfield. Myrtle will be fondly remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and companion.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was predeceased by her husband, Donald, Aug. 10, 1983; and one brother, Carl Pinette. She is survived by two sons, Glenn D. Martin of South Portland, and Tony D. Martin and his wife, Dawn, of Fort Fairfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy M. and Donald McGary Jr. of Houlton, and Christina M. and Jason Theriault of Fort Fairfield; three brothers, Ronald Pinette and his wife, Mona, of Wallagrass, John Pinette of Biddeford and Dana Pinette and his wife, Marilyn, of Fort Kent; one sister and brother-in-law, Norma (Pinette) and Manzer Belanger Jr. of Frenchville; seven grandchildren, Emily Christina McGary and Donald “DJ” McGary III, both of Houlton, Eden C. Martin of South Portland, Madeline M. and Jackson D. Martin, Gabriel R. and Kiersten D. Theriault, all of Fort Fairfield; numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her special friend and companion of many years, Clarence Good of Carlingford, New Brunswick.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at St. Denis Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. Spring interment will take place at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Kent. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral Mass at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Martin to Aroostook Cancer Care, P.O. Box 150, Presque Isle, ME 04769. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
