VEAZIE – Margo (Spaulding) Shropshire, 61, died peacefully Feb. 21, 2011, surrounded by friends and family in Bangor. She was born Nov. 12, 1949, in St. Louis, to Harold and Beatrice (Carter) Spaulding.
Margo graduated from Bangor High School in 1968 and the University of Maine with a bachelor’s degree in special education. She was the proud co-owner of GRR Trucking, Inc., with her late husband, Phil. Margo had a passion for gardening as well as a gift for helping others find their way. For the past 25 years Margo dedicated herself to helping at risk youth through her employment at Job Corps, Project Atrium and Janus House. Margo’s home was always open to anyone who needed a bed to sleep on or who just needed sound, thoughtful guidance in life. Her family would often walk into her house to be greeted by one or more individuals she was helping. She touched and changed more lives than many will ever know. She will be loved and missed forever.
Margo is survived by her mother, Beatrice Spaulding; daughter, Elizabeth Spaulding and fiance, Kevin Treadwell; son, Jason Spaulding and wife, Heather; stepdaughter, Rachel Shropshire and fiance, Jared Beal; stepsons, George Shropshire Jr. and Robert Shropshire; sister, Vicky (Spaulding) Carey and husband, Arthur; sister-in-law, Ann (Pearson) Foss and husband, Nathaniel; eight beloved grandchildren, Kevin, Jeffery, Dustin, Patrick, Brittany, Kayla, Dylan and Owyn; aunt, Margaret Runnells; niece, Mindy (Carey) Manzo and husband, Louis, and their children, “Little Lou” and Sage; nephew, Arthur Cary III and wife, Connie, and their children, John, Christina, Sophia, Malcolm and Arthur IV; her beloved cats, Missy and Luna; her best friend, Diana Ellis and husband, Dr. Peter Haywood; several cousins and aunts, innumerable friends and coworkers. Margo was predeceased by her soul mate and husband, George “Phil” Shropshire; and her father, Harold Spaulding.
Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration of Margo’s life 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at 29 5th St., Old Town. Those who wish may make a donation to Acadia Hospital, care of Healthcare Charities, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402, to help at risk youth.
