NORTH ANSON – Raynard Girard Morrell, 84, died March 6, 2011, with his children by his side at Somerset Rehabilitation Center, Bingham. He was born Oct. 5, 1926, in Kingfield, to Harland and Zilpha (Taylor) Morrell.
After graduating from Kingfield High School in 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Korea from 1944 to 1946. He graduated in 1949 from Skowhegan Commercial School. On July 30, 1949, he married Viola Reid in Kingfield and moved to North Anson permanently. Raynard was employed as bookkeeper at Beaverwood Products and North Anson Reel Co. He owned and operated Anson Real Estate Agency. In 1989 Raynard retired as the North Anson rural letter carrier after 35 years. As a 55-year member of Masons, Raynard served as past master and treasurer of Northern Star Lodge No. 28 AF & AM and member of Minerva Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 74. He was a longtime member, deacon and treasurer of First Congregational Church, North Anson. Raynard devoted many hours as Scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop No. 494, trustee of Stewart Library Association, treasurer of Anson Academy and member of American Legion Post 173.
He was predeceased by his wife; infant son, Gary; brothers, Milford and Graden Morrell; and sisters, S. Winona Raymond, E. Pauline Morrell, B. Nathalie Snow and Beatrice McGrath. Raynard is survived by children, Emily and husband, Mitchell Quint, of North Anson, Colby and wife, Vicky Morrell, of Carmel, Nancy Merrill and companion, Mike Raven, of Embden and Kelly and husband, Jason Garland, of Norridgewock; grandchildren, Magen Merrill and fiance, Josh Landry, of North Anson, Stacey and Jennifer Morrell of Bangor; great-grandson, Jacob Hulbert of Bangor; brother, Burchell and wife, Virginia Morrell, of Farmington; sisters-in-law, Louise Hewey of Massachusetts and Joyce Reid of Minot; and lifetime friend, Taisto Maki of Embden. The family expresses sincere thanks to all the health service personnel who cared for Raynard during this past year.
At Raynard’s request, there will be a graveside service at a date and time to be announced later at Sunset Cemetery, North Anson.
