PRESQUE ISLE and EASTON – Frederic W. Hutchings Sr., 76, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at a Presque Isle health care facility. He was born Dec. 9, 1934, in Houlton, son of Horace and Mona (Bulley) Hutchings.
He served in the National Guard and the Maine State Guard as a lieutenant colonel. Fred was a member of the Civil War Re-enactment Group. He started Hutchings Flooring, Presque Isle, in 1965, which he owned until 2010.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Barnes Hutchings of Easton; a son, Frederic “Todd” Hutchings Jr. and his wife, Patty, of Presque Isle; three daughters, Naomi Mallot and her husband, Louis, of Yuba City, Calif., Ann Swan and her husband, Galen “Chip,” of Hampden, and Janet Barnes and her husband, Roger, of Presque Isle; stepchildren, Mark Barnes of Presque Isle, and Tamra Keaton and her husband, Ken, of Caribou; grandchildren, Vaughn Hutchings and his fiancee, Jennifer Holmquist, Brenton Mallot and fiancee, Jessica Collier, Aaron and Cassy Mallot, Jennifer Hair and fiance, Michael Eldridge, Jason Hair, Christopher Swan, Julia Sanipass and fiance, Keith Wilcox, Kristin Barnes, David and Caitlin Sanipass, and Daniel Sanipass; stepgrandchildren, Zach, Sara and Cody Barnes; and great-grandchildren, Savannah Mallot, Tyler and McKenzie Eldridge, Erin Rose, Dylan and Kylan Wilcox. He also leaves behind two sisters, Mary Corbin and her husband, Gilbert, of Alton, N.H., and Jean Jones and her husband, Bob, of Wichita, Kan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Ann (Todd) Hutchings, in October 1990; and two sisters, Louise Turner and Lois Dubois.
Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with Pastor Larry Palmer officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be later this spring at Green Ridge Cemetery, Caribou.
