LAPEER, Mich. – Elmer Nathan Curtis, 91, passed away March 29, 2011, in the comforts of his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Caribou.
Elmer married Verna Mae Johnson, Feb. 13, 1941, and they were together for 65 years. Elmer was a member of Oregon United Methodist Church, and was loved by many family members and friends.
He is survived by his son, Milford Curtis of Tennessee; daughters, Lois and Jerry Hinson of Tennessee, Doreen Pike of Lapeer, Mich., and Raylene and Kurt McDonald of Lapeer, Mich.; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosanna Humphrey, Idella Peary, Barbara Coroniti, Ella Morne and Esther “Dee” Hardgrove; brothers, Maynard and Sharon Curtis, Freddy Curtis, and Emery and Juanita Curtis; many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Verna Mae; parents, Nathan and Josephine (Searles) Curtis; and sister, Mildred Woods.
A funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Oregon United Methodist Church, 2985 German Road, Columbiaville, Mich. Friends may visit 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Capstick Chapel, 542 Liberty Park, Lapeer, Mich., and noon-2 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Oregon Township Cemetery with the Rev. Marybelle Haynes officiating.
