WESTFIELD – Essie York, 92, went home to be with her Lord Monday, March 28, 2011, after a long illness. She was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Little St. John, the daughter of Henry and Melissa (Brann) Sturgeon.
Essie was a homemaker for her husband and 14 children. She enjoyed springtime, flowers, picnics, garage sales and spending time with her family. She was a member of Apostolic Pentecostal Church, Mars Hill.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Acil York; an infant daughter, Sherry; daughter, Leona; and sons, Acil and Warren York. Essie is survived by two daughters, Irene Lapointe and her husband, Ron, of Blaine and Betty Fowler and her husband, Orman, of Greenbush; and eight sons, Wilmer and his wife, Linda, of Fort Fairfield, Roger of Fort Fairfield, David and his wife, Linda, of Presque Isle, Rodney and his wife, Patty, of Presque Isle, Vaughn of Mapleton, Dana, Floyd, and Bryan and his wife, Sue, all of Westfield. Essie has more than 150 grandchildren, with great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren included, for a total of five generations at the time of her death. She is also survived by a sister, Hazel Cyr of Presque Isle; many nieces and nephews; and her church family.
Funeral services will be held noon Friday, April 1, at Apostolic Pentecostal Church, Fort Road, Mars Hill, with Pastor Victor Hartley presiding. Friends and family may call 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the spring at East Blaine Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at
