HOLDEN – Joan S. Martin, 79, wife of Frederic M. Martin, died March 29, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Bangor, the daughter of Edmond P. and Cecilia M. (Gildart) Griffin.

Joan was a 1949 graduate of John Bapst High School, and attended Beal College. She worked for several years for the state of Maine as a secretary for the EPA in the Bangor office, and later for the Forestry Service. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor, during her childhood years. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling to England, and watching classic movies with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Frederic M. Martin of Holden; four children, Victoria Fisher of England, Donna Martin and Vincent Martin, both of Holden, and John Martin and his wife, Stephanie, of Clifton; seven grandchildren, Wesley, Jonathan and Ashley Fisher, Katherine Godsey, Molly, Jacob and Joel Martin and his wife, Jolene; one great-grandson, Isaac Martin; one sister, Helen Miller and her husband, Edward, of Cape Cod, Mass.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one grandchild, John Martin Jr., in 2002.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor. Burial will be at a later date at Clewleyville Cemetery, Holden.
