PITTSFIELD – Luise Trost Cirillo, R.N., 98, died March 29, 2011, at a Pittsfield health care facility, after a long period of ill health. Luise was born Dec. 30, 1912, in Gesaka, Germany, daughter of Otto and Angela (Zumdick) Trost.
Mrs. Cirillo is a World War II veteran of the Army Nurse Corps, serving as lieutenant. She was a surgical nurse and an interpreter for German prisoners who were admitted to the Army base medical unit at Camp McCoy, Wis. While stationed at Camp McCoy she met and married Anthony J. Cirillo of Springfield, Mass. Prior to entering the military, she was employed by the University of Chicago as a member of the Malaria Research Team under the direction of the U.S. government. Luise had lived in Pittsfield since 1950. Luise was employed as a surgical nurse at Mass General Hospital, Boston; Thayer Hospital, Waterville; and Sebasticook Valley Hospital, Pittsfield; and did private duty nursing at various hospitals and homes. She was active in various organizations in Pittsfield. She served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts, group leader the local Girl Scouts, Sunday school teacher at St. Agnes Catholic Church for 10 years, Sebasticook Valley R.N. Club, Somerset Ladies Bar Association, State of Maine Nurses Association, B.P.W. Club, Pittsfield Garden Club and Senior Citizens.
She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony J. Cirillo, in 1982; two sisters and a brother. She is survived by two sons, James O. Cirillo of Pittsfield and Joseph and his wife, Rebecca Cirillo, of Waterville; two brothers, Heinz Trost of Michigan and Karl Trost of Germany.
At her request, there are no visitations. A memorial service will be conducted graveside later in the spring at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
