NORTHEAST HARBOR – Marion Salisbury, 97, passed peacefully to a heavenly state, March 27, 2011, at Mount Desert Island Hospital, joining her late husband, parents and siblings. Descendent of one of the oldest, 1621, European families in America, Marion was born Dec. 9, 1913, in East Winn, the daughter of Lee D. and Ethel (Thurlow) Delano.
Marion graduated from East Corinth Academy, where she was captain of the girls basketball team, and treasurer for her class and the athletic association. She attended Gilman Commercial School, Bangor, and was hired as a secretary by the Knowles Co., Northeast Harbor, in 1937, where she made many close friends. While there, she met a schoolteacher, Roy Salisbury, and they were married in 1943, remaining so until his death in 1991. She and Roy were devoted members of Union Church, where she served as treasurer while working as a homemaker, as well as a business and private secretary. Loved by family and friends, she was known by the phrase, “I don’t want to be a bother to anyone,” and for her preference for a good dish of dandelion greens.
Marion is survived by her younger sisters, Helen Fisher of Milo and Jean Grant of East Corinth and Dover, N.H.; and younger brother, Raymond of Rochester, N.H.; her daughters, Nancy Libby of Lincoln and Mildred “Mimi” Miller and husband, David, of Raleigh, N.C.; son, Roy “Rusty” Salisbury Jr. and wife, Janet, of Rochester, Mich.; her seven grandchildren, Darcie, Terry, Jeanine and Katy, Brad, and Beth, and Alex; many great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy; an infant brother, Earnest; her dear younger sister, Olive Maxine Warren; and younger brother, Dean.
At her request, there will be no viewing. A graveside service at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor, will be announced at a later date. Gifts in Marion’s memory may be made to Mount Desert Nursing Association, P.O. Box 397, Northeast Harbor, ME 04662. Condolences may be expressed at
