PATTEN – Frank W. Landry Sr., beloved husband of Sally (Thibault) Landry, passed away peacefully April 1, 2011. Frank was born Feb. 2, 1931, in Crystal, son of John and Odille (Baulieu) Landry.
In 1949 Sally first saw Frank on the back of a grader and knew he was the “one ’cause he was going places.” Two years later on June 4, 1951, Frank married the love of his life, and in 1952 they started their family of six children, which grew to 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Frank worked for 19 years for the state of Maine Department of Transportation before starting his own business. Frank bought his first truck at age 19 and with the help of his five sons he established Frank Landry and Sons. In 2005 the company was awarded a very special award from Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District for outstanding conservation contractor. Frank was given a plaque for this award, which he proudly displayed. Frank, with the help of his sons, worked for Great Northern and plowed snow for the towns of Patten, Mount Chase and Stacyville for many years. Frank always worked very hard and expected everyone else to. He expected the very best out of all his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sally; his sons, Frank Jr. and wife, Kathey, Raymond and his wife, Martha, Dana and his friend, Debbie, and Richard and his wife, Sarah; one daughter, Sally Jane and her friend, Tony Ryan; and a very special daughter-in-law, Barbara Landry, wife of Frank and Sally’s late son, George; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, with one more due in May; one brother, Jack and his wife, Dottie; many nieces and nephews; a couple of very special friends, Marlon McAvoy and Everett Hall; and many other former employees that stayed very close to Frank who were too numerous to count. He was predeceased by his mother and father; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jane (Clement) and Joseph A. Thibault; his brothers, Clifford, Joe and Raymond; one sister, Rena; a brother-in-law, Joseph “Red” Thibault; a son, George; and two grandchildren, Michelle Marie and Michael George. He will be sadly missed by all his former employees, friends, family and all who knew him.
Friends are invited to an open house 1-4 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Frank and Sally’s home to share all stories and memories. A graveside memorial service will be held June 4 – Frank and Sally’s 60th anniversary.
“The world will little note
nor long remember what
he did here but his family
will never forget.”
