BANGOR and SURRY – Philip E. Gray, 59, husband of Ethel C. (Salt) Gray, died unexpectedly April 2, 2011, in Bangor. He was born April 1, 1952, in Dover-Foxcroft, son of Earl A. and Christine P. (Daggett) Gray.

Phil grew up in Sangerville and resided in Surry with his wife for 25 years, where they owned and operated a small engine repair business, Surry Small Engine Repair. He was a skilled mechanic and craftsman and made custom knives. Phil and Ethel recently moved to Bangor, where they were residing.

A devoted and dedicated husband, father and son, Phil is survived by his wife, Ethel of Bangor; his father, Earl Gray and Florence of Sangerville; one daughter, Angela Morse and her husband, Lewis Sr., of Gouldsboro; two stepchildren, Carolyn Manke and Henry of Portland, Ore., and Andrew Manke and Terrice of Seattle; four grandchildren, Sara, Lewis Jr. and Christine Morse, and Andrew Manke Jr.; and one sister, Wendy L. Rolfe and her partner, Trudy Gerry, of Detroit. He was predeceased by his mother, Christine Phyllis Gray; and his sister, Earlene Phyllis Gray.

Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, and 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where a time of shared words and memories from family and friends will begin 6 p.m. as the visitation concludes Thursday.
