New soup kitchen to open in Bangor

BANGOR — Apostolic Lighthouse Church, 517 Hammond St., will open the Breaking Bread Soup Kitchen on Monday, April 18, at the church.

A free mid-day meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Monday.

In addition, the church will hold its next bi-weekly community supper at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the church. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 12. For information, call 942-2517.

Author of ‘Backpacking for Jesus’ to speak at church

MILO — The Rev. Stephen Dean, author of “Backpacking with Jesus,” will speak about his book at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Park Street United Methodist Church, 15 Park St.

Dean, who lives in Abbot, is pastor of United Methodist congregations in Guilford and Ripley. He was called to ministry after his 1996 hike of the Appalachian Trail. He recounted the experience in his book.

Dental clinic set for Grace UMC

BANGOR — Grace United Methodist Church, 193 Union St., will hold a dental clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23.

Service for adults and children will be provided by Tooth Protectors Inc. and include oral hygiene assessment, oral cancer screening, cleaning, fluoride treatment, sealants, patient education and referrals.

MaineCare is accepted for patients up to the age of 20 and others are charged a fee.

Christian Science lecture planned at library

BANGOR — Christian Science practitioner Fujiko Signs will speak on “Love Without Limits, Life Without Fear” at noon, Monday, April 25, in the Lecture Hall at Bangor Public Library.

A native of Japan, Signs lives in State College, Pa. Her talk is sponsored by First Church of Christ Science on Broadway in Bangor.

Signs uses the ideas and understanding gained through her study and experience to help others find freedom from the limitations and shackles of materiality including sin, sickness, disease, pain, poverty, lack, relationship problems, unemployment, homelessness and purposelessness.

In Bangor, Signs is expected to talk about how she has found freedom from those kinds of limitations through spiritual means and through helping others who are searching for a better understanding of God.
